Mansun are:
Paul Draper - Songwriter, Vocals & Guitar
Dominic Chad - Lead Guitar
Stove King - Bass
Andy Rathbone - Drums
Mansun's record label is Parlophone.
History behind the band:
- The band were formed early 1995 as a five piece, they came from Chester,
(about 15 miles South of Manchester). The original line up was Chad, Paul,
Mark, Hib and Stove.
- Their 16-year-old samples fella, Mark, left the band following a paranoid
fit on the eve of their Bratbus performance in January 1996. He failed to turn
up for the gig and in the end couldn't take the hedonistic excess of his
rock'n'roll lifestyle.
- Original drummer, Hib, quit the band after throwing a pineapple at Chad's
head during the summer of 1996. It was the culmination of a lot of bitter
disputes within the band and so he was kicked out and replaced by ex-Kinky
Machiner Julian Fenton.
- Julian Fenton was replaced in October 1996 by drummer Andy Rathbone.
Facts about the band members:
- Chad and Paul live in Handbridge.
- When Chad came to Chester he found work at the Fat Cat Cafe on Watergate
Street. He no longer works there (naturally!) but they still play Mansun in
there.
- Dominic Chad went to Bangor University and came to live in Chester after
leaving the course.
Facts about the music:
- Take It Easy Chicken - Released Sept 95 - Label Sci-Fi HiFi -(This was a
label specially set up by the band themselves to put out their first two
singles) - It was a limited edition release of 500 copies and the band's name
was accidentally written as Manson instead of Mansun.
- Skin Up Pin Up - (B-side Flourella) - Released on Sci-Fi HiFi again, a
run of about 6000 copies, I think. (November 1995)
- They did intend to release `She Makes My Nose Bleed' in Feb 96, but plans
to do so were scrapped and it was replaced by `Egg Shaped Fred'
- The vinyls for One EP and Two EP have all the b-sides from the CD single
on them.
- `She Makes My Nose Bleed',`Naked Twister' and `The Chad Who Loved Me' were
all played on the BBC Radio 1 sessions, long before being released.
- 'The Chad Who Loved Me' was a pastiche on a bond theme.
- At 8am 17th April 1997 there were some antics concerning a
Liverpool Street Station, a large number of businessman commuters,
25,000 pounds worth of fivers and a video camera.
Out of the blue, an
anonymous bloke came on to one of the platforms just as the
commuters were getting of a train and threw 25,000 pounds at
them. The resulting carnage (apparently including one old woman
being virtually decked by a lunging stockbroker) as people
desparately scrambled around after it was secretly filmed with
the idea of using it as a promo for "Taxloss". Something to do
with greed...
